Timm Konold is the Lead Scientist for Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs).
He graduated as veterinarian at the University of Munich, Germany, where he also completed a doctorate on Toxoplasma gondii diagnosis. He worked in mixed veterinary practice in Germany, followed by a temporary residency at the University of Dublin and more mixed practice in Northern Ireland where he first encountered TSEs in farm animals, before participating in APHA’s TSE research program. He is particularly interested in the clinical presentation, which was also the topic in his PhD from the Royal Veterinary College London.
He is also a Named Veterinary Surgeon and the veterinary lead and Discipline Champion in Animal Sciences and promotes animal welfare improvement and research at APHA.
Whilst the current avian influenza outbreaks make all the headlines, let us turn our attention to a disease that hardly anyone expected anymore: bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
