Sarah Stewart

Sarah is the Science Stakeholder Engagement and Events Manager in the Science Strategy and Planning Team at APHA.

Sarah graduated from the University of Aberystwyth with a Bachelor’s degree in Cell and Immunobiology in 1989. She worked as a research assistant in human health (TB, cervical cancer and the human genome project) for 10 years at the University of Cambridge, the Sanger Centre and Imperial College before joining the APHA TB Research Team as a Scientific Officer in 1995. She worked on DNA vaccines for TB.

In 1999, Sarah transferred from her scientific role into an administrative position as the Events Manager in the Business Division. She led on the organisation of scientific conferences, workshops and visits. Her first international science conference was M.bovis 2000.

Sarah has continued to develop her skills in event management and communications whilst working at APHA and the Defra Group and is currently leading event management and supporting science communications in the Science Directorate. She is actively trying to develop our public engagement with schools and colleges, working with APHA STEM ambassadors.
