I am the Head of the Surveillance and Laboratory Services Department in the Science Directorate of the Animal and Plant Health Agency of Defra. The department is responsible for delivering post mortem services and laboratory testing for private vets for diagnosis of disease, capturing surveillance data about animal disease profiles, ensuring we can spot any new or re-emerging disease threats. We also provide statutory and international trade testing for a wide range of diseases to protect animal and human health, and the UK livestock trade.
Kirsty Line talks about the role played by APHA's laboratory services in the development of the Animal Disease Testing Service, a new digital service for vets.
